2.Most people were greatly shocked by the news ______ the IT company had gone bankrupt.(D)

A. what

B. how

C. why

D. that

3.After they______the first super computer in the 1940s, scientists and engineers began to develop ways to create networks.(B)

A. create

B. created

C. have created

D. has created

4.Each worker puts in nearly 2200 hours a year______average, and contributes about $30 to GDP per hour.(C)

A. with

B. in

C. on

D. under

5.There used to be a high tower here, ______?(D)

A. was there

B. wasn’t there

C. used there

D. usedn’t there

当陈述句部分含有used to时,反意疑问句部分应用usedn’t或didn’t。因此,空处应填didn’t there或usedn’t there。故选D。

6.His eyes were filled with tears when he ______ his family after a long separation. He ______so excited before in his life.(D)

A. meets: has never been

B. met: has never been

C. meets: had never been

D. met: had never been

7.This website may contain links to other websites ______ privacy measures may be different from ours.(D)

A. that

B. which

C. who

D. whose

8.______fired, your health care and other benefits would not be immediately cut off.(B)

A. Would you be

B. Should you be

C. Could you be

D. Might you be

如果if引导的非真实条件句中含有were,should,had,可以省略if,并将were,should,had提至句首。

9.Our company culture is______makes us successful in creating a friendly environment.(C)

A. where

B. how

C. what

D. why

连接副词where,how,why在名词性从句中充当状语,不符合题意,因此可以排除选项A、B、D。故选C。

10.62 percent of the people surveyed said they always avoided______their smart phones during meals.(B)

11.I had to wait for another two months to be able to have the car______.(D)

A. fixing

B. fix

C. to fix

D. fixed

12.We insisted that he______badly wounded and that a doctor______for at once.(B)

A. should be: should be sent

B. was: be sent

C. were: should be sent

D. was: must be sent

13.Margaret asked me to repeat______telephone number______ second time so that she could write it down.(B)

A. the: the

B. the: a

C. a: the

D. an: a

14.Jane won’ t join us for dinner tonight and______.(B)

A. neither won’ t Tom

B. neither will Tom

C. Tom will too

D. so will Tom

B. addicted

C. addressed

Some people argue that self-plagiarism (自我剽窃) is impossible by definition because plagiarism is theft and people cannot steal from their own work. But, this is not correct in law. And there are circumstances, such as insurance fraud, etc. , where it is possible to steal from oneself.

Self-plagiarism, however, must be carefully distinguished from the recycling of one’ s work that to a greater or lesser extent everyone legally does. Self-plagiarism in academic publications is a grey area. However, many universities indirectly recognize the practice as deceptive(欺骗性的). They publish rules preventing students from handing in basically the same essay for credits in different courses. There are also rules against someone handing in the same graduate thesis to different universities. Among established academics, self-plagiarism is a problem. It means basically the same article or book is handed in on more than one occasion for salary raising or promotion.

Like all plagiarism the essence of self-plagiarism is the author’ s attempts to cheat the reader. This happens when no indication is given the work that is being recycled or when an effort is made to disguise(掩饰) the original text. For example, an author just makes cosmetic changes to make the same article, chapter, or book look different. But actually it remains unchanged in its central argument. In this case, disguising a text occurs. Authors change such things as paragraph breaks, capitalization, or the substitution of technical terms in different languages. What he has done is to make readers believe they are reading something completely new. This practice is self-plagiarism.

21.In the second sentence of the first paragraph, \(C)

A. all the activities about plagiarism

B. the activities of self-plagiarism

C. the argument for the impossibility of self-plagiarism

D. the argument for the possibility of self-plagiarism

22.Which of the following is NOT true about self-plagiarism in academic publications?(D)

A. It is impossible when one recycles his/her work to such extent as everyone legally does.

B. It is not acceptable in universities.

C. Handling in the essentially same essay for credits in different courses belongs to it.

D. Many universities are strongly opposed to it.

解析:根据第二段第二、三句“Self-plagiarism in academic publications is a grey area. However, many universities indirectly recognize the practice as deceptive.”

Dai Ailian was born in Trinidad, an independent republic in the West Indies in 1916, with her forefathers living abroad for many years. In 1930, she went to London to study dance. Many famous dancers such as Anton Dolin, Rudolf Laban and Mary Wigman had been her teachers. Though ballet and modem dance were not well connected at that time, Dai Ailian learned both of them. This is of great significance for her later development.

Dai Ailian returned to her homeland in 1939 after the Anti-Japanese War broke out. She gave benefit performances in Hong Kong and on the mainland. Major programs such as Homesick Melody, Selling, Wheat Gleaning Girl and Story of the Guerrill all showed sympathy for the poor and concern over the nation’ s fate.

Dai Ailian’ s art career entered a golden period after the founding of the People’ s Republic of China. She became the first president of the National Dance Troupe, the first headmistress of the Beijing Dancing School and the director and advisor of the Central Ballet Troupe. Her representative works at this were group dances called Lotus and Flying Apsaras presented in Berlin and Warsaw in 1953 and 1955 and won awards.

There is a measurable relation between how much a person learns and his attitude toward the subject to be learned. When faced with a difficult learning task, one path to success is to concentrate on the positive aspects of the subject matter. If a student has a boring teacher, one solution is to look for the positive aspects of completing the course, regardless of how boring the teacher happens to be. To accomplish this might require a private tutor or some independent reading, but with the right attitude, success is possible.

Over-achievers—students who do better than their test scores show—usually have a positive interest in learning. They may learn some things more slowly, and they may make more efforts, but,

to compensate (补偿) , they are often better at applying what they have learned. As long as they do not have emotional problems, they are successful.

Under-achievers—those who function below their ability shown by test scores—often tend to allow a few negative factors to affect them. Because of their negative attitudes, they sometimes become unfairly critical of teachers. They allow themselves to get bored when it is not necessary. In short, their attitudes often cause them to learn less than over-achievers.

If you learn to replace a negative attitude toward learning with something more positive, you are on the road to achieving almost any goal you desire. For example, if you realize a personal computer with a word processor would improve your performance, but have an attitude that keeps telling you that a computer is difficult to operate, you tend to make all kinds of excuses. In short, you resist making full use of a terrific tool, simply because your negative attitude prevents you from learning.

To whom it may concern,

I am one of your customers. I ordered a set of Harry Potter in your online store two weeks ago, but I didn’ t receive them until yesterday. And much to my disappointment, the books were so poorly packed up that the cover of one book was torn. To make matters worse, it is not a complete set, as I found one book missing.

I am unhappy to have received such poor service, and I believe I have the right to ask you to deal with this problem. I hope that you either return my money or deliver a new set of books to me. Besides, I’ d like to be informed of the process of your dealing with my complaint.

I am looking forward to your reply.

Sincerely yours,

Wang Ling
